Ouch!  I just thought some quick feedback would have been useful.  If  
I *had* the time I would be a little more investigative; for my  
troubles I have just published a Drupal 5 module and spent two hours  
tracking down a problem with Drupal 5 and PHP 5.2.08!

I haven't given up on this yet.
